How do I import calendar data into Outlook or Outlook Express?

The answer to this varies as do different versions of Outlook.  However the process concept is the same in all versions.  The file format of the calendar data from DUMC.net is called “CSV” (comma separated values).  This means that each part of a calendar event (title, time, date, etc) is separated by commas in the file (myevent, mytime, mydate, etc).  This is an industry standard file format that most software can use to import a ‘batch’ of calendar events all at one time.

Once you have downloaded the file from the home page (ImportCalendarEvents.csv) and placed it somewhere on your computer you can run Outlook or Outlook Express and choose File -> Import and Export.  This brings up the Import/Export wizard.  Select Import from another program or file (see fig 1 below):

Click Next and select the type of file to import [choose Comma Separated Values (Windows)] (see fix 2 below):

Click Next and tell the import program where to find the file (defaults to ImportCalendarEvents.csv) is that you saved earlier (see Fig. 3 below):

You should make sure to select Do not import duplicate items if you use this feature often, otherwise recurring events like monthly meetings will be duplicated over time. Click Next and tell Outlook where you want the imported data to go (see Fig. 4 below):

Click on Calendar then click on Next.  That’s it!  The last screen on the import process is shown in Fig. 5 below.  Just click Finish and Outlook will bring your church calendar data into your Outlook calendar.
